About this catalogue
Other Communications collects essays about how public writing behaves. The four series take the announcement, the sentence, the quoted remark and the correction in turn, and each essay follows a single problem to the point where the practical decision becomes clear.
Every essay is issued as a numbered plate. The letter identifies the series and the number is the position in the catalogue as a whole, so the numbering does not restart and the order of publication stays visible. The plate drawings are typographic rather than illustrative, because the subject is language and an illustration would have to invent a subject the text does not have.
The series can be read in any order. The corrections series assumes the reader is broadly sympathetic to the argument in the notices series about what a public statement is, but nothing else here depends on being read in sequence.
